QUICKSPIN 35
The new and improved Solterra has this same goal at its core , so all versions in Canada come standard with Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD . Here , the system is comprised of two 80-kW electric motors , one driving the front wheels , the other powering the rear wheels . This configuration creates genuine SUV-like capability , handling , traction and control , something that is generally lacking in competitor vehicles .
For the new model year , the next-generation Subaru StarDrive ® powertrain receives significant upgrades . The powertrain , which utilizes a 72.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack , develops a robust 215 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque . Driving range is now 359 2 kilometres , with the usual caveat that factors such as very cold weather can affect that figure . Another key aspect of the battery that ’ s important to keep in mind : It ' s engineered to retain much of its original capacity , even after years of use . 3
New hardware and software give the Solterra even more real-world useability . The regenerative braking system , controlled through the paddle shifters , is now more intuitive , as is the S-Pedal drive mode . A new charge cable is now capable of Level 2 charging power . A water-to-water heat exchanger is added to improve cold-weather DC fastcharging and management of battery pack temperature at all times . 1 Lastly , additional software upgrades create improved DC fast-charger time . When hooked up to such a charger , the Solterra can now go from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in under an hour in ideal conditions . 1
To further emphasize that the Solterra is not your typical EV , it comes standard with adventure-ready features such as Dual-Function X-MODE ® with Grip Control . This technology gives the Solterra increased capability on hills and over rough roads . Also , the 210 mm of ground clearance and short overhangs make this EV more adept
at clearing small obstacles in the road , such as rocks and fallen branches .
In terms of safety , the Solterra also continues an extremely strong tradition at Subaru . Since its debut , the vehicle has been an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK 4 and the 2024 model recently received an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK + rating . The e-Subaru Global Platform — specifically engineered for electrified vehicles is the most rigid platform ever built by Subaru .
For the new model year , the next generation of the Subaru EyeSight ® Driver Assist Technology system is standard . New safety features include front radar sensors that inform the Front Cross-Traffic Alert ( FCTA ) and Lane Change Assist ( LCA ) systems , the Emergency Driving Stop System ( EDSS ) and the Emergency Steering Assist ( ESA ) with active support .
The Traffic Jam Assist ( TJA ) 5 system is also available on the Solterra . Previously featured on other models , this system now offers hands-free driving assistance at speeds under 40 km / h , a first for Subaru .
The passenger cabin on the new Solterra also showcases some sweet improvements . The steering wheel is now oval-shaped , a suitably dynamic look for an undeniably dynamic vehicle . There ’ s also a new power-operated passenger seat with height adjustment . And the front passenger seat backrest angle has been increased to allow for longer and bulkier items to better fit when the rear seat is folded down .
Distinctive styling . All-electric all-wheel drive . Fast-charging capability . Go-anywhere credentials . Innovative and ultra-safe platform . An array of hardware and software upgrades . Taking all of this into consideration , the 2024 Subaru Solterra is primed to lead the charge for Subaru in the days , weeks , months and years ahead .

1 Charging times and capacities are estimated based on ideal charging conditions and infrastructure . As temperatures decrease below 10 ° C , charging time will increase significantly and charging capacity will decrease significantly . Charging may slow down more than other comparable models in weather conditions below 0 ° C and may not be possible when the battery temperature drops to around -20 ° C and below . Amongst others and non-exclusively , drive battery conditions , charger specifications , charging infrastructure and Level 3 DC fast charging fully more than once per day also can negatively affect charging time . See the owner ’ s manual for details .
2 Based on Natural Resources Canada ’ s ( NRCan ) approved guidelines . Refer to NRCan ’ s Fuel Consumption Guide available at https :// fcr-ccc . nrcan-rncan . gc . ca / en for more information . Full battery charge and ideal conditions are required . Figures will vary based , amongst others and non-exclusively , on driving and charging habits , speed , accessory use , weather and temperature , battery age , vehicle condition , road condition and other factors . In sub ideal conditions , figures may worsen by more than 50 %. Battery capacity decreases with time and use which will further reduce range . See the owner ’ s manual or NRCan ’ s Fuel Consumption Guide for details .
3 The Battery and Electric Drive Units are covered for 8 years , or 160,000 kms , whichever comes first , with retention of 70 % or more of the original battery capacity over that period . 4 For more information on these tests and the IIHS methodology , visit iihs . org . 5 TJA requires an active Drive Connect subscription . See your Subaru dealer for details .
