CAUTION
Do not place or hang anything on the shift paddles. Doing so may result in accidental gear shifting.
Gear position indicator

When the manual mode is selected, the gear position indicator on the combination meter illuminates. The gear position indicator shows the currently selected gear in the 1st-to-6th gear range.
Gearshifts can be performed using the shift paddle behind the steering wheel.

To upshift to the next higher gear position, pull the shift paddle that has“+” indicated on it. To downshift to the next lower gear position, pull the shift paddle that has“ −” indicated on it.
To deselect the manual mode, return the select lever to the“ D” position from the“ M” position.
While driving with the select lever in the“ D” position, if you change gears by operating the shift paddle, the gear position indicator illuminates and shows the current gear condition.
NOTE
Please read the following points carefully and bear them in mind when using the manual mode.
When you switch to manual mode, the first gear position is“ 4”.. In order to ensure safety and appropriate driving performance, downshifting operations are restricted. If the paddle shift lever is operated at a vehicle speed at which downshifting is not possible, a beep will sound to alert the driver that the downshift cannot be made.
. When the gear position is“ 3” or less, the gears will automatically upshift depending on the engine speed.
. When the gear position is“ 4” or less and you hold the shift paddle“+” for a long time, the gears will upshift to the gear position“ 6”.
. If the gear position indicator is not displayed or“ D” is displayed even when the shift lever is set to the“ M” position, the transmission may be malfunctioning. Consult your SUBARU dealer to have your vehicle inspected.

. Always apply the foot or parking brake when the vehicle is stopped in the“ D” or“ R” position.
. Make sure to apply the parking brake when parking your vehicle. Do not hold the vehicle with only the transmission.
. Do not keep the vehicle in a stationary position on an uphill grade by using the“ D” position. Use the brake instead.
