Immediately, I knew that was impossible. There was nothing beyond the Territory, so leaving it was another term used for getting killed.
Dakota cried desperately,“ What did we do? At least tell us what we did!”
“ Well if you’ re leaving, I guess I could tell you,” the man muttered,“ You knew too much.” And with that, he got out of his chair and strode to the door, leaving Dakota and I terrified in his wake.
“ Halloween Spooky Story” by Ana Georgescu
“ It’ s so cold!” I remarked to Amelia, who was walking to the party with me. October was my least favorite month, and it being Friday the thirteenth made everything seem slightly off. It felt just a little bit eerie, almost like a bad dream. The fact that it was getting dark so quickly this time of the year hadn’ t helped at all.
“ Well Beth, considering that for you anything under 75 degrees is freezing, it’ s safe to say that for you, it’ ll always be cold,” Amelia announced with a grin. Amelia might have made fun of me at times, but she was a real friend who knew how to make the little things in life seem grand.
“ Hey Beth, isn’ t that the house we were invited to?” Amelia asked, thinking about the Halloween invitation we had both received a week ago.

Turning to my right, I spotted a bent, rusty mailbox covered with the early snow and a cracked stone path leading up to a rundown house. I froze in my tracks, looking at the dark house, wondering why it looked so familiar. Then a memory attacked.

“ ALAN, ALAN, GET OUT OF THERE!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, but without hope. Mocking me with its power, the sea of red flames roared and one by one, silenced the children ' s screams. The blaze had only started five minutes before the fire department came, but is was too late. The fire had taken its toll, and I lost my four years old brother, the one person in the world that I cared about.
Snapping back to reality, I could hear Amelia talking to me in a worried tone, almost like she knew what I was thinking.
“ Are you alright?” I knew that it would be pointless to worry her so I started to nod and smile reassuringly at her, hoping she would believe that I was fine. I could see that
