refuse to believe humans evolved from apes. However, not everyone is Christian, so this can not be a reason of banning a book.
Furthermore, political parties might censor the books that influence citizens to rebel against the government( pros & cons of book banning buzzle. com). For example, the Nazis banned books that involved Darwinism, Marxism, or Pacifist literature( When Books Burn speccoll. library. arizona. edu). Hitler banned these types of books not because they contain false information, but because he did not want Germans to learn what he was doing and what he was up to. This was his way of securing his power.
Censoring books can definitely influence young adults just like reading books. If children are forbidden to do something, they think that action is inappropriate. This can be used in positive ways as well as negative ways. Censoring books prevent the flow of ideas. If some parents do not like Confucianism, then they might work together to ban“ The Analects”, which give positive ideas to children. Children will inevitably be less willing to accept new ideas because that is how the community teach them to believe. Clearly, censoring books will limit kids’ ability to absorb different knowledge.
Lastly, kids at Wilmette Junior High School do not like banning books. Twenty-five out of Twenty-eight students enrolling in WJHS disapprove censoring books in the library.( base on my research in school)( thanks to Ms. Poulos) Most students in WJHS have not participated in books banning before, but why do they dislike the idea? There are many examples of banning books not because they contain inappropriate material such as swear words, but because they includes ideas that the community can not accept.“ The Origin of Species” is a great example of this. Children are a lot more open minded as adults, therefore, they do not want inappropriate books to be banned. Most of the teachers and students in WJHS agree that it was wrong to ban“ The Origin of Species”, because schools restrict students from reading it merely because it mentioned the world was not created by God. Schools should not take away students’ right to learn. The decision should be made by the students because they are the future. Most students and teachers would not want that. All schools should open minded and not banning books is a sign of that. Teachers should be knowledgeable and parents of students are supportive and approachable.
