All college applications should be completed through Naviance. For help with setting up your Naviance account, go to www. cobbk12. org / Wheeler and click on the‘ Counseling’ page from the Menu.
The student must stop by counseling to 1) request a transcript to be sent, and 2) pay the $ 2 transcript fee. The School Counseling Office will only send transcripts upon written request. Pay attention to college application deadlines; college deadlines are non-negotiable.
Parents and students are encouraged to use Naviance and www. gafutures. org for information on colleges, careers, scholarships, and financial aid.
Financial Aid: Financial aid may be available for some students planning to attend college. This aid may come in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, or work-study programs. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid( FAFSA) is available through the federal government at https:// studentaid. gov / h / apply-for-aid / fafsa. If you are interested in the Pell Grant, HOPE Scholarship, or Zell Miller Scholarships, you MUST complete the FAFSA.
COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS – RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE
PSAT Fall of Sophomore Year Fall of Junior Year( for NMQT)
SAT or ACT Spring of Sophomore Year Spring of Junior Year Fall of Senior Year
COURSE REGISTRATION / DROP-ADD After registration, students may request a schedule change only if credit has already been received for the class scheduled or if a mistake was made in registering for the course. If a course is dropped after the first ten days of the semester, a grade of 10 will be given for that course, and no credit will be awarded.
EARLY GRADUATES Seniors desiring to graduate at the end of the first semester should schedule an appointment with their counselor ASAP. It should be noted that December early graduates will be allowed to participate in spring senior activities; however, any serious disciplinary infractions will result in non-participation in commencement.
FIELD TRIPS Field trips will be kept to a minimum to preserve instructional time. Field trips are activities with educational merit considered to be an extension of the class. Fees apply only to the cost of the activity and transportation. Students will not be excluded from a field trip due to inability to pay; however, trips are subject to cancellation if necessary, funds are not collected.
FINAL EXAMS Comprehensive final exams are given at the end of each course in every class and count 10 % of the final course grade. Students may NOT take a final exam early. In the case of illness, students may be tested after the scheduled testing period. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange with their teachers to make up final exams.
