Counseling Services
College can be exciting, rewarding, stressful, and challenging— sometimes all at once. Counseling Services provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where students can talk openly about concerns, develop coping skills, and work toward their personal, emotional, and academic goals.
Our mission is to help students thrive by supporting their overall well-being and empowering them to navigate life ' s challenges with confidence and resilience.
What Counseling Can Help With Whether you ' re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with stress or anxiety, navigating relationships, adjusting to college life, experiencing a difficult life event, or simply looking for support and personal growth, Counseling Services is here to help.
Services Available Counseling Services offers a variety of supports for enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, including:
• Individual counseling
• Crisis intervention and risk assessment
• Alcohol and other drug assessment and education
• Referrals to community providers and specialized services
• Consultation regarding student concerns
• Outreach programs, workshops, and wellness education
No Concern Is Too Small Many students wonder whether their concerns are " serious enough " to talk to a counselor. The answer is simple: if something is affecting your well-being, relationships, academic performance, or overall quality of life, counseling may help. You do not need to be in crisis to seek support. Whether you ' re feeling overwhelmed by stress, struggling to adjust to college life, facing a difficult decision, experiencing relationship challenges, or simply looking for a space to talk, Counseling Services is here for you. Seeking support is a sign of strength, self-awareness, and a commitment to your success.
What to Expect Counseling Services provides short-term, individual counseling designed to support students in addressing a wide range of personal and emotional concerns. The nature and duration of services are determined collaboratively between the student and counselor based on clinical assessment, student needs, treatment goals, and available resources.
When Additional Services May Be Recommended In some situations, a student ' s needs may be best addressed through services outside of the university counseling setting. This may occur when a student would benefit from more frequent, specialized, intensive, or longer-term care than Counseling Services can reasonably provide within the structure of an academic calendar.
When appropriate, counselors will discuss treatment recommendations with students and assist them in connecting with community providers or other resources that can best support their ongoing well-being. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives the level of care most appropriate to their individual needs.
Alcohol & Other Drug( AOD) Program Gwynedd Mercy University ' s Alcohol & Other Drug( AOD) Program supports a healthy and safe campus community through prevention, education, early intervention, and treatment referral. The program provides:
• Alcohol and other drug education programs
• Campus-wide social norms campaigns
• Assessment and educational interventions
• Referrals to community treatment providers when appropriate
Counseling Services utilizes the BASICS( Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) model to help students better understand their alcohol and substance use and make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
