“ Shut up .” Solaris mumbles . She brings an arm over her eyes in a childish attempt to defend herself .
The voice continues to speak . You left your mother behind , the only one who ever looked out for you after your father ’ s passing . You ’ re in denial about her ; you think she would be fine with you leaving her behind in that dump you lived in ; and now you blame Talin for doing the same thing you did to her ?
“ Just shut up . Please , please please -” Solaris whimpers and pleads with the voices inside her head to leave her alone and give her a moment of solace , but all they do is cackle like a group of crows and continue to hem and haw . She curls up into a ball , rocking back and forth as she spirals into constant muttering of the word “ please ”. Electricity crackles around her .
We ’ re sure Talin is having a great time with Eris , without your negative attitude that radiates off you like a revolting stench ! Your mother was happy she got rid of you , a pathetic , grubby extra mouth to feed ! She wants nothing to do with you , that ' s why she never responded to all the letters you sent to her . It would ’ ve been better for the world if you just dropped dead in that experiment they did on you !
“ JUST SHUT THE HELL UP !” Solaris screams and grabs the closest thing to her , which happened to be the glass of water by her bedside , and hurls it at the wall . It shatters into a million pieces . Her electricity crackles in the air , lightbulbs explode , and the power shuts off with a whirr . The sound of surprise from her neighbors and the other residents rings outside and through the walls . Some peek their heads out on the fire escape to ask what happened , others go to check on frail neighbors in this freezing summer . Solaris falls to the hardwood floors with a thud , the glass shards cutting into her skin , but the pain couldn ’ t come close to the emotional pain she felt inside . She wails and sobs , and it ' s raw and scratchy , and hurts as she speaks . Solaris curses the world and its cruel deck dealt to her . Blood seeps from her cuts . She feels the tears , cool and salty , trail down the apples of her cheeks . Burgundy pools greet the neighbor who decides to check on Solaris through the fire escape . Solaris hears the banging on the window and the frantic shouts from the neighbors who crowd around to see . But Solaris can ’ t find it in her to care .
Solaris , the woman who could make lightning thunder in the skies felt uglier than ever , with her slender bony fingers , glass cutting into her skin , with her betrayal and her hypocrisy and with her envy ; all on full display for the gods to see .
