has come and
gone, and a new
semester is
upon us. For
some students
the Promised
Land seems
very close,
as they near
the end of their
studies, whereas
others are still
getting nervous
about what lies
ahead in their
academics.

Every semester comes with its new challenges and
expectations. It’s common knowledge that
university is challenging, not only the amount
of work one is expected to do but there are also other
external forces that prove to be a stumbling block to
one’s progress.

der the stewardship of its president Dr Danny Jordaan
delivered a public lecture on the role of education and
football in nation building at our campus on 24 July.
This signals a great future for our campus sports as we
continue to climb the ladder and establish ourselves as
one of the best sports universities in the country.
The World Cup is also done and dusted. 32 came
but only one conquered. From Neymar’s heroics to
Suarez’s moment of madness, Brazil 2014 provided
plenty of memories with minnows lighting up the stage.
We also saw history being rewritten as
Germany became the first European
country to win football’s glittering
prize on South American soil.
Congratulations to Brazil for
delivering one of the best World
Cups of the modern era. They
have certainly been great hosts.

A new semester can somehow be refreshing. It provides one with an opportunity to rectify errors of the
first semester and assist them in getting their priorities
right. So, allow me to take this opportunity to welcome
back every student to second semester of 2014 academic year.
Since July being Mandela month, I therefore sincerely
hope that most of us did our bit in keeping the legacy of
Tata Mandela alive.
Our campus sport keeps on getting better and better as
it continues its ferocious rise. It is with great pleasure to
announce that six players from the male senior football
team recently received call-ups to the University Sports
South Africa (USSA) national under- 21 squad. We
would like to congratulate the technical team and players for their huge efforts in flying the NWU Vaal flag.
