Does sleep really help?

According to multiple websites, sleep is a major impact on stress. Sleep is not something you should take for granted, it’s very important to our health. Knowing students here at Bioscience, we take sleep for granted. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re not handling your body well. “Your body repairs itself when you sleep.” Does it really? Yes, it does. Sleep affects how you look, how you feel and/or perform, and it can affect your quality of life. Does that explain why you look funny some mornings? Since we’ve teenagers and we’re going through drastic changes, we should be getting 8½ to 9½ hours of sleep. So what happens when you forget you have a project due the next day? You stress, get frustrated, and you stay up all night. Then your body doesn’t have time to complete everything it has to do to give you a good day. Sleep gives us muscle repair, memory consolidation, and it releases your hormones that regulate your growth and appetite. This is why we wake up so tired that we don’t participate. If you want to wake up energized and happy you have to go through 4 stages.

Stage 1: This stage is when we’re between being awake and asleep, this can also be called light sleep.

Stage 2: This stage is when you’re onset of sleep. You become disengaged from everything around you, you begin to breathe at a regular rate, and your body temperature drops. It’s good to sleep in a cool room so that you won’t be uncomfortable as you sleep.

Stages 3 & 4: If you get to this stage you’re in the deepest sleep. Breathing becomes slower, your muscles become relaxed, tissue growth and repairs happen, and you’re energy is restored. Ever wonder why you’re still sore when you worked out days ago? You’re not sleeping right. Other things are that your hormones are released (Don’t complain you’re not growing if you don’t sleep), your brain and body receive energy, you dream, your eyes dart back and forth, and your body become immobile and relaxed.

Look at all the things you’re missing out on when you don’t sleep enough. Don’t you want that? Don’t you want to look attractive when you wake up? I sure do. You want to understand and get good grades? Sleep so that you can focus and participate. Also, when you don’t get enough sleep, you can feel the need to eat more than enough, causing you to gain weight? If you’re stressed, gaining weight, and not sleeping take caution of your body. Your amount of sleep can impact how successful in life you could be. If you want to be rich, sleep!

So when you sleep, your body a chance to lower stress hormone levels to go back to normal after you experience stress. If you are sleep deprived you’re: 1.Crazy 2.You stay stressed at an unhealthy level 3.Cellular skin repair is prevented 4.You cannot concentrate properly 5.You’re tired and irritable all day. In other words, if you don’t sleep well, you will end up becoming stressed.
