Volunteer Spotlight
A
s excited as we have been for our new adoption
center to open, we knew moving from our home
for the past 30 years was not going to be an easy task.
Making the transition for the animals, the staff, the
volunteers, and the public as seamless as possible would
require lots of planning and lots of manpower. The
actual move was fast-tracked when the governor issued
the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order. As always, our
volunteers rose to the challenge and pitched in to tackle
everything that we needed to settle into our new home.
• Moving the dogs and cats into the new building
• Transferring remaining supplies to the new building
after the animals moved
• Cleaning the dog runs and cat enclosures in the
old building
• Unpacking boxes (moved items and shipped items)
and putting everything in its new place
• Cleaning construction debris from the outdoor
runs and yards
• Organizing prep rooms and the storage room
• Fine tuning any glitches while we settled into the
new facility
Volunteers joined together to accomplish all of
this and so much more:
In this Volunteer Spotlight, we would like to give thanks to
everyone who assisted in our move into the new adoption
center. We are so very happy to be home again!

Emails and Letters from Adopters
Hello!
We adopted Don Julio (the short hair domestic tabby) last July, when he was just 6 months old.
We had been looking for a companion for our 11 year old main coon mix. Several shelters refused
us a younger cat due to her age. We know our older cat well and knew she needed a more active
cat who was younger and wouldn’t try to dominate her. She is a very passive and will not stand
her ground with a territorial cat. WSHS listened to us and allowed us to adopt Don Julio. He’s
the perfect companion for our beloved Sookie. She didn’t like him at first, but now they groom
each other and she calls him in the middle of the night to come play with her. He still annoys her,
but she’s teaching him manners and they are both such cuddle bugs. Sookie was at her highest
weight allowed. The vet said she was not overweight but didn’t want her gain more. Thanks to our
Donnie, her weight is down! Both are happy, healthy, and active. We can't thank WSHS enough!
