100 Acre Homestead serves up connection through education and experience

PRINCETON – A farm just outside Princeton has created a small slice of paradise for families to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle.
The 100 Acre Homestead began as a small hobby farm on a 100-acre property quickly grew into a place where community members can gather to find a reprieve from city life and dedicate time to family.
When Sara and Jim Rutten first bought the land, they envisioned a place where they could homestead just for their family, living off the land.
“ I worked at a corporate, high-stress job for a long time, and when I decided that it wasn’ t what I wanted to and realized I was spending so much time away from my family, I decided that it was time to make a change,” Rutten said.
The couple, with the help of their now 12-year-old son Henry, began building the farm around 10 years ago.
The land they purchased for their dream started as designated crop land covered in corn. Now, the family’ s home, outbuildings, pastures, barns and fields all rest on the land.
“ We owned the land for two years
