CLASS CHAT Hair today, gone tomorrow... A local Nursery Nurse has braved a dramatic haircut all in the name of charity. Samantha Rowley who works at Eccleshall’s Springfields Day Nursery, and parent of one of the nursery’s children, Matt Pimble have both had their heads shaved in a bid to raise money for the very worthy 42 December 2013/ January 2014 Birmingham Children’s Hospital. As well as braving the clippers on her long brunette locks Samantha has also donated her hair to the Little Princesses Trust which will go to be made into wigs for children that have unfortunately lost their own hair through illness. Samantha told Stone and Eccleshall Life: “I have had the urge to fund raise for a while and recent events in my life and the lives of others around me helped me to make my decision.” Father of two Matt Pimble also stepped into the hot seat and had his hair shaved off, he explained his motivation behind it saying: “Both my children attend Springfields Day Nursery and both my wife and I felt they were doing such an amazing job raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital that we wanted to support them so I too shaved all my hair off for this wonderful cause.” Samantha added: “Some people have said we’re brave, some have said we’re selfless and others that its amazing. We just think of the children having to be brave through their pain, the parents having to be strong whilst crying inside and the families whose lives have been turned upside down. “Every team member at Birmingham Children’s hospital from doctors and nurses to porters and caterers play a vital role and we would like to say a big thank you!” Speaking after the event Nursery owner Halina Eve said: “I can’t express how proud I am of both Samantha and Matt. The room was full of emotions and lots of tears were shared. I will remember the day forever.” Over £1000 has been raised so far by Springfield Day Nursery with donations still coming in. Halina added: “A big thank you to everyone who has donated. Springfields Day Nursery is honored to have such amazing people.”
