BABY MATTERS

Oh baby ! New classes help parent child bonding

Local parents and carers will soon be offered the chance to try out three new classes aimed at bonding with their babies and furthering their children ’ s development . The new five week courses in Baby Massage , Baby Yoga and Baby Signing will be on offer to all parents and carers with infants aged from six weeks upwards .

Former Children ’ s Centre employees Tracy Roberts and Faith Asplin , who have more than 18 years experience between them working with baby and infant development , will be running the courses after setting up their new business , Baby Matters together .
The pair decided to join forces following service cuts in their field earlier this year , and are delighted to be able to offer their new services at Manor Hill Children ’ s Centre at Manor Rise in Stone .
The flexibility of working independently means Tracy 48 and Faith 40 can offer their classes to parents and carers at the Children ’ s Centre where they have provided services before , maintaining an important continuity built up with parents in the past . It has also given them the freedom to offer their services in one on one sessions or in specially organised groups .
Tracy and Faith have already been successful in running their Baby Massage and Baby Yoga classes in other local areas , and in September as well as offering these classes in Stone will be widening their range of activities to include the Baby Signing class too .
Speaking about the classes Faith explained : “ Massage is a calming session which involves movement touch , voice and relaxation . It helps with colic , improves digestion , sleep and teething and is open to any parents / carers and babies from six weeks old to crawling age .”
For the yoga classes Tracy explained how this is a great follow on from massage promoting happy and lively parent / carer baby interaction .
“ It uses physical stimulation , holding movement , touch , voice and deep relaxation while the signing , which we will be starting after the school holidays , is a great way to have fun with your baby . Signing uses nursery rhymes and signing and helps to reduce frustration and encourages early communication .
