Extension , engagement and training program
SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
Sixteen training and extension events were delivered ( some in conjunction with other NQ Dry Tropics delivery programs ). The events attracted a total attendance of 300 people ( 150 individuals ). The majority of attendance was from the Bowen-Collinsville area but the activities attracted participants from a wide area including Ayr , Belyando Crossing , Cape York , Charters Towers , Clermont , Georgetown , Gumlu , Mareeba , Mingela , Mt . Garnet , Ravenshoe , Woodstock and Dalrymple Landcare , Terrain and field officers from Northern Gulf NRM . Many participants attended multiple events .
Joint implementation and extension activities with other NQ Dry Tropics programs provided synergies and encouraged a wider range of field event participants , as well as additional project implementation options and practical support for landholders .
The events included a final year science , grazier and field officer workshop ( in field ) which was held to distil the project outcomes at some of the main project sites ( Glenalpine , Tabletop , Hellsgate and Strathalbyn stations ).
Project co-operators were enthused about their project sites and keen to show the sites to the strong network of like-minded graziers interacting around the project , once results were available .
There were some significant practice changes implemented by some project participants and a new mindset emerged with many of the graziers involved with the project . A number of graziers said participants and attendees at field events were increasingly able to have very “ advanced ” conversations about concepts and methodologies and could engage in robust debates , which would not have been possible five years previously .
Twenty-seven grazing planning ( including forage budgeting ) one-on-one extension advice opportunities were provided to project cooperators through Bob Shepherd , DAF , Brian Welhburg , Inside Outside Management , Dick Richardson , Grazing Naturally , Raymond Stacey , RCS , and Jamie Gordon , Mt . Pleasant Station ( peer-to-peer ).
