Diocesan Synod
On Saturday 23 rd February 2019 I went with Jean to the Diocesan Synod meeting
which was held in the Howard Centre Kilmarnock.
After registration the Synod Eucharist (including Constitution of Synod) was held in
the Holy Trinity Church which was just across the road. Bishop Mark was the
celebrant and it was a beautiful service with lovely singing.
We then went back across to the centre and the Synod reconvened with the business
of the day.
There followed two hours of discussion, elections and reports before we stopped for
lunch which was a very lovely buffet.
After that the Synod continued into the afternoon with a lively session of questions
and answers.
The Dean spoke of the proposal to move out of St George’s building in Glasgow to
new premises and showed us some of the plans.
There was also information about the Lent Appeal for MMD Scotland which last year
raised £15,437.83.
The appeal this year is for Malawi – St Luke’s Luke’s Hospital.
They would like to provide a new surgical block with two operating theatres and
vastly improved facilities which will help these people who are some of the poorest
on the planet.
To achieve this, they are seeking a further £75,000 to add to the £1000,000 already
raised.

After all discussions were through Bishop Mark declared the meeting over at 3 pm
with the blessing.
A good day and much thanks to my lovely son for kindly taking us there and bringing
us home.
