STOKING CURIOSITY | SHORT REPORT 2018
CONCLUSION
REWARDING EXPERIENCE
The presenters, especially the University researchers
who had done public engagement before as well those
new to it said the festival will be helpful to their research.
BENEFITS FOR THE CITY
AND ITS COMMUNITIES
Having a festival of ideas in Spode Works was considered
a good opportunity. People said it offered several benefits
for the community. They also listed several skills they had
to offer to develop University–Community partnerships for
mutual benefit.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER?
The event itself was seen as accessible and welcoming.
Many presenters were satisfied with the location of their
activity and the facilities. The three workshops that did
not attract any visitors were in Spode Museum, but other
workshops in the Museum did attract some visitors.
The main things that people said could have
been better were:
• publicity and promotion of the event
• the event programme and signs around Spode site
• numbers of volunteers guiding people around.
WHAT NEXT: STOKING CURIOSITY 2019
Stoking Curiosity 2019 will be held at the Spode site
on 22 and 23 November 2019.
We will:
• Plan the event with more time
• Invite schools, colleges and businesses to take part
• Create a map and guide of the Spode site,
showing where the activities are
• Invite more people to volunteer, to help people
find the activities on the site
