Are YOU Walking???
Yes, you’re right – we did feature Walking in the last issue. However, we find walking to be very
important in life – therefore, we are focusing on it again this month. And we’ll probably keep focusing
on it until YOU accept the fact that YOU need to get out and WALK!
Just because “cooler” temps are among us does not make for another excuse to not get out for at least a
15-minute walk! Did you know that bundling up to stay warm on your walk will create even more of a
calorie-burning workout? You didn’t? Well it does! So grab your coat, your scarf, whatever you need
to be warm on your walk and GO!
We want everyone to be happy and healthy. Walking is the simplest form of exercise anyone can do.
It’s just a matter of making yourself do it! At least 15 minutes a day is not only great for your physical
well-being (heart, weight, toning and more), but also for your mental well-being (anxiety, depression).
Walking can “refresh” your brain and make you feel so much better!
Create a chart for yourself. For just one week. Mark each day that you take a 15-minute walk. You
know how kids get excited when they see a star next to their name every time they complete a task or
get a good grade? Imagine the excitement YOU will feel when you see the checkmarks for each day’s
walk! At the end of the week, reward yourself! Then create a new chart. Challenge yourself and create
it for two weeks. Whatever you do, just do something healthy for YOU – and your family!
SINCE THE LAST ISSUE, HAVE YOU TRIED:
ADDING A MINUTE TO EACH WALK. Compete with yourself. Say
“ahhh, let’s do one more minute” and see how good you feel for
accomplishing that little goal!
CHANGING UP YOUR PANDORA list with music that makes you feel
good enough to dance and sing while you walk! You’ll notice folks
driving by in their cars looking at YOU and smiling, yet their feeling
guilty for not being motivated like YOU!
REWARDING YOURSELF with little victories! If there’s something you
really want, like a new pair of shoes or a dress or even a 4-shot
macchiato with extra caramel – create a Rewards List and EARN each
reward” with your walks!
