Remembering
Edward William Werner Miller was born on 9 July 1930 and dies on 18
August 2020. He passed away peacefully in bed at his nursing home
with family close by. A private family only funeral was held on 26 August
and a celebration of his life is happening on 18 September for those who
have indicated they wish to attend.
Ed will be greatly missed by his family and by all the St Margaret’s people
wo knew and loved him. He will be remembered by us for many
things, including his devotion to his wife Beryl, his valued work and support
for Stepping Stones For Life (including as convenor of its Storytelling
Circle), his personal Storytelling, and for being a Scot.
I had the great privilege of working with Ed during my early career and
learning from him about many things. Even then, way back in the early
1960s, he told stories and shared his love of words with his colleagues.
The last time I saw Ed he shared with me many snippets of numerous
stories of his past life. He acknowledged that they were all mixed together
as they tumbled out, but I recognised and enjoyed those joined up
snippets about so many different things.

Below is one of Ed’s poems, previously published in one of the wonderful
SSFL Story Circle’s annual publications that Ed so lovingly assembled,
promoted and sold to raise some welcome funds.
The Gorge at Caernarvon
If you walk through the woods
Where the soft winds blow
And the tracks disappear in the bush
If you sit very still as the light fades slow
And forget the day’s hassle and rush
If you listen to the breeze
As it rustles the trees
And gaze at the firelight’s glow
If you watch where the stars
In the heavens are gleaming
And your voices stay quiet and low
Your heart may be filled with wishing and dreaming
Of today and tomorrow and long, long ago.
