Greetings from the Winklers
Email received from Frank Winkler in response to Margaret Erickson ’ s 4th July greetings :
Good morning Margaret , and Don ,
Lovely to hear from you -- thanks for thinking of all your US friends today . As you head to bed , we are just getting up here : the US flag , of course , and also a rainbow banner saying " Pace " that we brought back from Italy years ago .
Lots of developments here : Janet slipped on the stairs and broke her hip 3 months ago . There have been further bumps in the road since , but she seems now to be recovering well . She ' s still using a walker , though .
This has accelerated our decision to move to a cottage in a senior community here in Middlebury - sort of our own version of Kangara Waters . We ' ll actually move in late July , but much work is now underway with sorting through the detritus of our 38 years together in our old farmhouse . We are not trying to clean out the house entirely just now , and all our 4 children will be here for parts of the summer - all of which is a great help .
The pandemic is gradually fading here ; Vermont has the highest vaccination rate of any state in the U . S ., with 85 % of those over 12 having at least one jab . We got both ours by Feb . Our church services are still virtual , as they have been for 16 months . We go back in person at last on July 25 .
Others are starting to get up now , so I should see to breakfast ,
Best to you both , and to all our St Margaret ' s friends , Frank ( and Janet )
