Fork and Talk Resumed
Twelve members of St Margaret’s gathered together in person on 17
July when Fork and Talk recommenced at the home of Kerry and John
Bell. Not everyone who normally attends these monthly get togethers
for a shared meal and conversation was keen to participate because of
the COVID-19 issues, but those who did enjoyed a very pleasant evening.
A Zoom session was set up to enable those not attending in person
to join the event online. Whilst some had expressed interest in doing
that, on the night no-one actually did, so we don’t know how it would
have worked.
Lots of sensible precautions were taken. For example, John Bell greeted
everyone at the front door squirting hand sanitiser on to their hands,
Beverley Clarke cut pieces of pre-dinner cheese for others chosen
crackers so that she was the only person to handle the knife, each person
was given a napkin wrapped around a knife and a fork and were
asked by Kerry Bell to use those implements to serve themselves (and
to obtain fresh knives and forks if they wished to return for seconds). A
similar process was used when people returned for their desserts.
It happened to be the day following Margaret Erickson’s 80th birthday
so a hastily prepared cake was cut as those present (carefully) sang to
Margaret and, of course, it was then consumed. It was odd not having
candles - as blowing them out would have been a no-no! Everyone
there signed a birthday card on behalf of all her St Margaret’s friends.
