lately? Yikes! Joan Rivers even died due to complications of an elective surgery. Kenny Rogers was practically unrecognizable before his passing, and don’ t get me started on Mickey Rourke. Although these are all public figures, people over the age of 40 seem to be scrambling for ways to look younger with a quick fix. Might I suggest watching movies“ Death Becomes Her” and“ The Substance” before making any radical face-altering decisions.
There are many ways to keep your skin healthy looking and stave off wrinkles and damage. Major skin damage can’ t be reversed, but there are treatments to minimize its appearance. Sun and smoking are two huge causes of aging your skin. We’ ve discussed the importance of sunscreen, now it’ s time to realize those smoker’ s lines around your lips are only going to get worse with age( as long as you’ re still smoking). The nicotine from smoking will also stain your grey and silver hair( on your head and your face) with a golden yellow tint that’ s hard to miss!
One of the most important things you can do besides sunscreen is hydrate. Making sure you drink plenty of water will flush out your system, and it’ s also great for your skin. In almost any interview I’ ve read or seen with Jennifer Aniston, she talks about how much water she drinks as part of her skincare routine. It doesn’ t need to be fancy water. Just toss some lemon or cucumber in a glass or bottle of water and keep refilling it all day. Dehydrated skin is caused by a lack of water, so you also want to lock in your skin’ s moisture as much as you can. Look for lotions and serums that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and emollients. Taking vitamin supplements, but also using products with vitamins A, C, B6, and Folate help with skin cell turnover, collagen synthesis, and cell growth. Avoid heavily salted, sugary, and greasy foods as these can cause unwanted breakouts, even as an adult!
I’ m always shocked by the amount of people who still use tanning beds when there are so many self-tan options these days. And I’ m saying this as a former tanning salon owner! If you must have that golden glow, check out spray tan salons( NOT like Ross in Season 10, Episode 3 of“ Friends”). You can get a custom, buildable tan in a spray tan machine, or a handheld airbrush tan. Self-tanning lotions, sprays, and creams have vastly improved over the years as well. Please avoid pulling a Kramer( Seinfeld episode“ The Butter Shave”) and seek out skin-friendly alternatives to tanning. This goes for both men and women. As you’ ve noticed, both of my examples were men. We know the fellas like to be bronzed as well!
Botox, lip fillers, and silicone aren’ t a long-term solution for aging faces. Prevention and consistency will go a long way as opposed to shooting poison into your face, but that’ s just me. My friends will tell you I scold them for not washing their faces before bed. That’ s

my one single tip for keeping your face looking good. Always wash your face, especially if you wear makeup everyday.
Washing away pollutants, makeup, dirt, and allergens at the end of the day will save your face in the long run. My other tip is to always wear sunglasses. It’ ll prevent aging around your eyes, but it will also prevent macular degeneration. My grandmother had it and I asked my eye doctor how to avoid it and he said to always wear sunglasses outdoors, even on overcast days. Plus it’ ll keep you from squinting and wrinkling your forehead!
As someone who interacts with others for a living, I love to see people’ s expressions. I want to see your laugh lines, your eyebrows move, and your freckles. These are not flaws. They are evidence of a life well-lived. Develop a skincare routine, stay hydrated, and wear your shades. Look into red light therapies, get an exfoliating facial, and quit smoking. Wear sunscreen and wash your face!
