Skincare Tips
FOR YOUTHFUL AGING
In the digital age where everyone is a social media“ influencer,” it’ s time to stop getting your anti-aging skincare advice from 25 year olds hawking wrinkle cream. That being said, please stop purchasing your skincare( and haircare) in the same store where you can buy socks and vegetables. There are plenty of highly skilled professionals in our area whose life work is helping people look and feel beautiful. They can offer non-invasive solutions to all of your skin woes without plastic surgery or injectables.
Having been in the beauty industry for over 30 years, I can confidently say that a properly trained cosmetologist, barber or esthetician should be able to point out areas of concern. We see places such as your scalp, the back of your neck, and your ears where skin cancer loves to hide. If there was ever a time in your life when you were a sun worshipper, please make an appointment with a dermatologist to have a skin check. Although we cannot diagnose, I’ ve alerted several clients to skin damage / spots over the years that turned out to be cancerous.
Our skin is our largest organ, so we must protect it. Daily sunscreen is non-negotiable, even if it’ s cloudy. UV damage is the No. 1 cause of aging skin. Sunscreen is not a special occasion product. If you’ re only using it on sunny days spent outdoors, it’ s time to find a permanent place for it in your morning skin care routine. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every morning to all exposed skin( including the neck and hands) to prevent further UV damage. Skin on the neck and hands tends to show earlier signs of sun damage, so remember to apply SPF anywhere that’ s exposed. The hands are the giveaway if someone’ s had work done, your hands will always tell on you!
The term“ anti-aging” seems ageist in itself. We all age. There’ s simply no getting around it, and the alternative is a bit grim. Both men and women alike are searching for the Fountain of Youth in a pill or a bottle, or sometimes under a knife. Have you seen Priscilla Presley or Bradley Cooper
