“ My favorite thing is the creative and the artistic side of it ,” Jones said . She said customers will send her inspiration pictures , but she doesn ’ t like to design her cakes solely based on pictures .
“ I like to get a vision for what they ’ re wanting , and then create my own vision of something along those lines ,” Jones said . “ I really like the ability to create and design one-of-a-kind desserts .”
Because she creates from scratch , she likes to experiment with unique flavors .
“ I personally get bored eating the same things all the time , and so I like to come up with new , delicious things ,” Jones said .
Although her biggest sales are custom birthday cakes , one of her biggest client bases is parents of outof-town students who are purchasing OSU graduation cakes . May is by far her busiest time of the year .
Jones employs a team of six ; a retired older gentlemen from her church who bakes the cakes , a young married girl who manages the storefront team and several OSU undergraduate and graduate students who help prep and run the storefront .
Other popular items at the storefront include cake pops ( Stillwater Sweets offers between 10-15 flavors ), cookie treat packs ( individual and variety options ). Gluten-free options are also available .
In addition , Stillwater Sweets offer options for Easter , Valentine ’ s Day , Thanksgiving ( pies ) and Christmas cookie-making kits . Jones said she wants to keep the shop small to keep rent and expenses down and to allow her to focus on the “ long run .” That means the bakery is more of a grab-n-go dessert shop , with only one small table Kcome in the afternoons , so the bakery is open Tuesday-Friday from 11 a . m . to 6 p . m ., and noon to 6 p . m . Saturday .
Jones said that Blue Spruce , which is next door , helped facilitate cake pickups for her while she was at

the OSU Alumni Center . Now , she ’ s paying it forward by allowing small Stillwater and made-in-Oklahoma vendors to sell their products at her store , including businesses selling wood flower arrangements , cards , earrings , stickers and cake toppers .
“ I have really loved all of the business owners I have met in Stillwater ,” Jones said . “ A lot of times ( entrepreneurship ) is portrayed as this cut-throat business world where everybody ’ s out to get you , but I have really good relationships with the other bakeries in town . … We all kind of specialize in different things .”
Jones said some customers don ’ t yet know she has a storefront , and she ’ s working to get a real sign – she uses a street sign for now .
“( But ) we love our location ,” Jones said . “ And I ’ m really excited about Block 34 that they ’ re building … We ’ re just in a really good location for that , too , that I ’ m hoping that when they do events and things there , as well , that that will help drive a lot more business downtown .”
