entertainment Stillwater Community Band Summer Concert Series MEDIA RELEASE The Stillwater Community Band returns to the City of Stillwater Community Center in June for its 18th consecutive summer concert season. The Thursday night concerts are free to all. The annual concert series featuring the Stillwater Community Band is returning to the City of Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. 8th Ave., this June, with performances on Thursdays at 7 p.m. The band is an Oklahoma nonprofit corporation originally formed in 1906 before being reformed in 1992. It gives free concerts for the enjoyment of the players and the community. Young and old have enjoyed the band’s spirited music, and its popularity continues. The band features more than 90 musicians from all ages, coming together to bring music to Stillwater during the summers. This summer marks its 18th consecutive concert season. As a special guest, the June 26 concert will also feature the Gold Orchestra, a youth string orches30 tra from Manhattan, Kansas. David Littrell, a music professor at Kansas State University, founded the orchestra 25 years ago. Under his direction, the orchestra has performed at a variety of prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall JUNE 2014 | STILLWATER LIVING MAGAZINE and the Rotary International Music Festival in Colchester, England.
