WORLDSTEEL PRESENTATION
Originally founded on July 10 , 1967 , under the name International Iron and Steel Institute , the World Steel Association , more commonly referred to as worldsteel , is a nonprofit organization located in Brussels , Belgium . As one of the world ’ s largest and most dynamic steel industry associations , the organization acts as a focal point in the steel industry and provides global leadership on all major issues impacting the industry . The organization celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 and today represents a diverse range of entities , including steel producers , national and regional steel associations , and even steel research institutes . They also have a second office in Beijing , China , that opened in April 2006 , and this expansion means that their members now represent around 85 % of global steel production . Throughout its long history , worldsteel has developed a focus on economic , environmental , and social sustainability , and the association ’ s goal is to promote steel development opportunities throughout the world .
During our annual convention and gala , we have the distinct pleasure of hosting guest speakers from worldsteel who will discuss everything from the global steel economy to the industry ’ s impact on the environment and climate change to global supply chains and more . As the perfect demonstration to round out our stay in Belgium , the worldsteel presentation is sure to make you think deeper about the issues facing the steel industry as well as where the global steel industry will go next .
