A Family Of Steel

CAMNOR STEEL GROUP

he story of Camnor Steel Group is one of family . It begins with a family , and the company has grown as a family into a much larger operation than anyone could have imagined at the start . Everything began with Structures de Beauce , founded by the Drouin family in 1972 . From there , the family grew the company slowly and surely across the decades until it reached the point it is at today , working with a number of other companies as part of a large , family-owned group of companies all working in and around the steel industry .
From 1972 to 2004 , Structures de Beauce was a company all to itself . They focused primarily on the installation of steel structures for industrial and commercial customers . In 2004 , they acquired Quirion Metal . In 2006 , EZ Steel was founded to join the fold as well . EZ Steel focused on the fabrication of metal products in order to help meet the need of the Quirion Metal customers in Alberta . In 2008 , Trimax Steel , a company focusing on design and fabrication of steel , was acquired . Finally , in 2015 and 2020 , respectively , Structures XL ( focusing on the fabrication of custom structural steel components ) and Conn-X ( operating as a design and shop-drafting specialist ) were acquired . Together , they make up Camnor as a whole .
Just as Structures de Beauce was run as a family company , Camnor Steel Group likewise operates as a family . Each company within the group has a specialty that they follow for the projects that they work on . Larger and more complex projects may operate utilizing multiple companies , each bringing their own specialty to the table .
The essential philosophy has always been to have separate entities with different markets or products while still maintaining a relation to structural steel . In that way , the market is diversified . In a sense , not putting all of their eggs into a single basket . The market is something which is out of any individual ’ s ( or company ’ s ) control . Versatility allows Camnor to complete many diverse projects regardless of market conditions .
Another aspect of this same philosophy is to avoid any single company from becoming too large , thus acquiring too much overhead and complexity . By maintaining smallsized companies , Camnor is able to keep overhead down and allow these companies to work together on projects . They are very much like a family , Camnor itself being the parent and each of the companies under it being like the children . Each “ child ” should be successful in their own right , but they should also work to help each other in any way that they can . The “ parent ” dictates the vision , the “ values ” direct how the companies work together , and the “ children ” act as siblings to carry out that vision and those values .
The companies , though acting as one , maintain their own specialties . That is what brings their strength to the table when they begin to work together on projects . Trimax , for instance , specializes in certain markets like the northeastern United States . They have worked on projects in New York City and Boston . Other “ siblings ” work across Canada , handling either projects unique to themselves or with each other on larger and more complex projects .
With the goal of working as a family group and connecting skill sets across companies , networking has played a huge part in the success of Camnor Steel Group and all of the companies within it .
AND SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING , STEEL PLUS HAS BEEN A PLACE THAT CAMNOR LEADERSHIP COULD TURN TO IN ORDER TO HELP STRENGTHEN BONDS BETWEEN ITS COMPANIES .
If a problem arises , it is easier to solve by working with people you already know and gathering different opinions or assistance in solving the problem . When you know what
