Handkerchief found with Cassio

Just shortly after their marriage, Othello gave Desdemona a gift.

The gift was Othello’s last relic from his mother, her handkerchief that was a gift from his father. The handkerchief is white, and spotted with strawberries. A few days after receiving the gift, Desdemona dropped it. And the gift was seemingly lost.

After hearing the news, Othello was outraged, saying, “Is’t lost? Is’t gone? Speak, is’t out o’th’ way?”

Desdemona reportedly refused to fess up about the missing gift.

The next day the Handkerchief was found in Cassio’s room. How the relic ended up there is still in question, but sources believe that it was put there by Iago.
