STORIES AND SONGS OF OUR SHARED
LIVED EXPERIENCES
Globalisation has caused rapid social and
cultural shifts to the world we live in. Yet, what
anchors us as Singaporeans are shared values,
traditions and experiences. These experiences
can be found in the music we listen to. While
music can define a whole generation through
a familiar tune, similarly, music can draw an
entire nation together. When they recognise
a familiar tune or sing a song on a shared
experience such as taking the MRT or looking
at the East Coast Sky, it contributes to a
sense of oneness, a sense of rootedness that
identifies us as a nation.
MAKING CONNECTIONS
ACROSS DISCIPLINES

Second Minister
for Education,
Ms Indranee Rajah
Just as the world we live in does not exist
in clear compartmentalised segments,
learning cuts across multiple disciplines.
When students see the connections between
subjects and disciplines, it helps them make
meaning of the world and prepare them for
the future. In the words of American
author Robert Greene, “The
future belongs to those
who learn more skills
and combine them in
creative ways.” Thus, an
education for the future
must prepare students to
adapt to changes brought
on by new intersections
such as technology and other
disruptive factors.
