LAUREN JAMSEN The Power of Mentos ! The purpose of my experiment is to see if Mentos cool down different liquids. I hypothesized if I put a Mento in water then the temperature will drop because when you suck on a mento your mouth feels cool. ! To c o n d u c t m y experiment I will need the following materials: water, Sprite, orange juice, Mentos, three cups, t h e r m o m e t e r, a n d a measuring cup. ! Once I had my materials, I put one cup of water, orange juice, and sprite into the same types of cups. I left the cups out overnight, then put a thermometer in one of the drinks and waited for five minutes. I wrote down the room temperature. Then I put a Mento into the drink and checked the temperature. I repeated with the other drinks. ! The independent variable is the different types of liquids. The dependent variable is the temperature that will change during the time. The controlled variable is the amount of liquid. ! My results were that instead of the temperature dropping it rose. My conclusion was that the data didnʼt support my hypothesis because I thought the temperatures were going to cool down. When the Mentos dissolved, the temperature went up. The way to apply it to the real world is when a substance is dissolved energy is released.
