ASSOCIATION ARTICLES NEWS Introducing Shenal Basnayake, the new CEO of ASTA 8 October 2019 The Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Shenal Basnayake as its new Chief Executive Officer, commencing on 1 November 2019, in the Canberra-based Secretariat. Shenal is very well qualified for this role, having extensive and varied experiences of management in both the public and not-for- profit sector that have taken him throughout Australia and overseas. It is his passion for developing the next generation of leaders and an interest in education that brings him to this role at ASTA. The importance of early and appropriate knowledge being effectively taught is a primary concern for this father of three young children and the welfare of teachers is therefore of paramount importance. Shenal’s background as a senior executive within both the private and public sectors will aid him in taking ASTA forward into the next decade. “Shenal has a wealth of experience, but it is also his passion, energy and dedication to professional and ethical practice that is extremely impressive,” said Geoff Quinton, ASTA’s President.
