Is there something you’ve always wanted to try but just
haven’t? Photography? Interior design, maybe? It seems the
thing that holds most people back from trying something new is
fear. The what-if-I’m-not-good-enough thoughts start to creep in
and we begin to doubt our abilities, especially if whatever it is, is
made public. What if it’s painfully obvious I don’t know what I’m
doing? What if I look like an idiot? Don’t worry. Especially if it’s
something new, it’s probably not going to be the most amazing
thing ever. And that’s okay. In speaking about creativity on This
American Life, Ira Glass explains that in the beginning everyone’s
work is usually terrible. It’s our willingness to persevere that
helps it get better. “It is only by going through a volume of work
that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as
your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this
than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile
