Tata Steel explores low-C tech
The facility has the capacity to scale in subsequent phases as demand evolves, and is positioned to become a future hydrogen hub, supporting industrial decarbonisation across south Wales. The West Wales Hydrogen project will deliver low-carbon hydrogen that fully complies with the UK’ s Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard and is expected to achieve over 15,000 tonnes of CO 2 e emissions savings annually.
Tata Steel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding( MoU) with the University of Science and Technology Beijing( USTB) to collaborate on the development of low-carbon steelmaking technologies, reinforcing the company’ s commitment to advancing sustainable steel production. As part of the MoU, the research teams from Tata Steel, Tata Steel Research and Innovation Limited and USTB will jointly undertake research across four broad themes addressing low-carbon steelmaking: scrap-based steelmaking, steel waste valorisation, end-product performance, and carbon capture & utilisation technologies. The collaboration will leverage USTB’ s academic expertise along with its experimental and pilot-scale facilities, enabling promising technologies to be tested, piloted and potentially scaled up for industrial application.
DEScycle signs a strategic partnership with MC
DEScycle, a developer of nextgeneration metals processing infrastructure, has entered into a strategic partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation( MC), a global integrated business enterprise. The agreement represents the next phase of engagement between the two companies following MC’ s investment in DEScycle last year. Under the agreement, DEScycle and MC have selected each other as preferred partners for the Japanese market and will work together to develop business opportunities focused on the recovery and processing of metals from electronic waste. By combining DEScycle’ s proprietary metals processing platform with MC’ s extensive industry network, operational and trading capabilities, and market expertise, the collaboration aims to advance innovation in e-waste recycling and support the growth of the circular economy in Japan.
MorGen approves green hydrogen project
LEADING STOCKHOLDER IN NICKEL ALLOY PIPING PRODUCTS
Trafigura, a pioneer in the global commodities industry, has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, MorGen Energy, has approved the final investment decision( FID) to begin construction of a 20MW green hydrogen production facility in Milford Haven, Wales. The West Wales Hydrogen project is supported by the UK Government’ s flagship hydrogen allocation round( HAR1) to achieve FID. With construction expected to begin in 2026 and commissioning by early 2028, the West Wales Hydrogen plant is set to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes per annum of low-carbon hydrogen, compliant with the UK’ s Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard. The hydrogen will be used across a broad range of applications, including port decarbonisation, industrial heating, manufacturing and chemical feedstock.
