Nippon Steel , Mitsubishi , ExxonMobil sign MoU
TWI has developed an electroless nickel-phosphorus plating ( ENP ) composite coating for demanding applications as part of ongoing geothermal-related research projects such as
Geo-Coat ,
Geo-Drill , and
GEOHEX . ENP coating is used in many industries , including aerospace , oil and gas , geothermal , construction , and electronics , owing to its exceptional mechanical and tribological properties such as high hardness , wear and corrosion resistance . By controlling the microstructure , ENP coating properties such as resistance to wear and corrosion , antifouling , antiscaling , or their combination can be tuned . This can be achieved through tailoring the alloy chemistry ( varying the phosphorous contents , incorporation of nanoparticles ), postplating heat treatment , etc . The incorporation of nanoparticles can enhance coating functionalities such as hydrophobicity , high hardness , and wear resistance with low coefficient of friction ( CTE ), etc .
Tamar expansion continues
Nippon Steel Corporation , Mitsubishi Corporation and ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte . Ltd . have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly study carbon capture and storage and the establishment of potential CCS value chains in the Asia Pacific regions . The three companies will conduct research on the capture of
CO 2 emissions from Nippon Steel ’ s domestic steelworks and evaluate the necessary infrastructure development required , with a view to establishing CCS value chains in the Asia- Pacific region . It would also include a detailed evaluation of Asia Pacific storage opportunities , including in Malaysia , Indonesia and Australia . Mitsubishi plans to evaluate the overseas CO 2 transportation and the development of CCS value chain . This is the first study to develop value chains for carbon capture in Japan with the aim to store elsewhere overseas in the region .
TWI coating for geothermal projects
Allseas will return to the East Mediterranean in the third quarter of 2024 to execute the installation scope for phase one of the Tamar expansion project .
Solitaire and
Oceanic will carry out the work comprising approximately 150 km of 20-inch pipeline from the Tamar field to the Tamar platform and a mix of small and large subsea structures in water depths ranging from 240 to 1660 metres . Discovered in 2009 , the development of the Tamar gas reservoir was fast-tracked to meet local demand for natural gas . Allseas played a key role in the
original development , installing over 350 km of pipeline between 2010 and 2011 for the operator Noble Energy Mediterranean Ltd . Allseas ’ scope also covers the design , fabrication , and installation of two PLETs , four jumpers , and 19 crossing structures , installation of umbilicals , and pre-commissioning of the pipeline system ( flooding , gauging , testing , dewatering , and nitrogen purging ).
