INOX Air Products and Asahi India Glass sign MoU
Fortum Oyj : Recycling & Waste invests EUR 10m
INOX Air Products , a manufacturer of industrial and medical gases , has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with Asahi India Glass Limited ( AIS ) to supply green hydrogen to AIS ’ s upcoming float glass facility in Soniyana , Chittorgarh , Rajasthan . The 20-year offtake agreement marks India ’ s firstever green hydrogen plant for the float glass industry . According to the statement from INOX Air Products , the new plant will generate up to 190 tonnes of green hydrogen annually through electrolysis , with solar energy as its primary power source . The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for July 2024 . During the initial phase , AIS will receive 95 tonnes per annum ( TPA ) of green hydrogen for use in its float glass manufacturing process . To support the generation of green hydrogen , AIS plans to invest in a solar power plant that will supply renewable energy to the hydrogen plant . This innovative move underscores the commitment of both companies to sustainability and ecofriendly industrial practices . AIS is building a greenfield project in Chittorgarh to produce high-quality float glass designed for automotive and architectural applications , utilizing cutting-edge technology . The green hydrogen supplied by INOX Air Products will play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process , contributing to a more sustainable future for the glass industry in India . This collaboration not only represents a significant step towards cleaner industrial processes but also reflects India ’ s broader efforts to embrace renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels .
Fortum Recycling & Waste is investing EUR 10M to build a new state-of-the-art IBA ( Incineration Bottom Ash ) metal refinery for non-ferrous metals in Gävle , Sweden . The new plant , to be started up in the coming autumn , increases the recycling rate of metals , and thereby reduces the need for extraction of critical , virgin metal materials . Operating as the northernmost metal refinery in Europe , for non-ferrous metals , it will reduce the need to transport mixed metals longer distances for metal recycling . The shorter transportation and reduced extraction of virgin material result in reduced carbon dioxide emissions . There are currently discussions on the EU level on how to secure the future need for critical metals and how to take the environmental aspect into account . Fortum Recycling & Waste ’ s new initiative supports the upcoming need to secure recycled materials for the industry . The new plant is being built up in the Stora Enso ’ s old facilities in the harbor of Norrsundet , in Gävle . Using recycled metals instead of virgin metals enables massive CO2 savings . For example , by using recycled aluminum , the savings are 10.6 CO2 equivalents per kilo of material , compared to the virgin material which requires mining and production of new aluminum . This means that carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by 96 % by comparing recycled aluminum with new aluminum production .
