Canada Nickel to build largest Ni mine project . The FSU is designed to receive shore power to reduce emissions while improving operational efficiency and is set to become commercially operational by Q2 of 2025 under a 20-year contract term , with provisions for extension based on mutual agreement .
Singapore plans second LNG terminal
Canada Nickel took the wraps off the company ’ s long-awaited feasibility study , describing the details behind proposed a 41 year open-pit mine life for its Crawford Mine Project , located 40 kilometres north of a northeastern Ontario city . With an average grade of 0.22 per cent nickel , Crawford will be a low-grade , big tonnage open-pit operation that will ramp up production in three phases and physically expand twice over four decades . Besides containing a nickel reserve of 3.8 million tonnes , the proposed USD 1.7 bn mine and mill project also contains a useful mix of other market-desirable minerals . Over its operational life , Crawford will produce 1.6 million tonnes of nickel , 24,000 tonnes of cobalt , 490 million ounces of platinum and palladium , 58 million tonnes of iron , and 2.8 million tonnes of chromium . Crawford will also bring more processing capacity to the Timmins area . The company intends to make an iron-nickel-chrome product for the North American stainless steel and ferro-alloy sector .
Singapore LNG Corporation has been given approval to also develop , own and operate the second terminal . SLNG is studying the possibility of having the terminal on an LNG ship , unlike the current one , which is an onshore terminal . SLNG ’ s current terminal has sufficient capacity to support all of Singapore ’ s power generation needs , based on current demand , if needed . The current terminal has a “ throughput capacity of about 10 million tonnes per annum ”, and that peak utilisation this year was at 60 %. However , demand for LNG is expected to grow , and Singapore will likely need more natural gas in the medium term as the economy continues to grow .
MISC signs LNG FSU project HD Hyundai Heavy Industries order
MISC Berhad has entered into a binding Heads of Agreement with Pengerang LNG Sdn . Bhd . for the supply , operation , and maintenance of a Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Storage Unit intended to be deployed at the PETRONAS LNG Regasification Terminal Pengerang in Johor . At the core of this latest partnership is the conversion of MISC ’ s LNG Carrier , Puteri Delima Satu , into an FSU dedicated to this
GTT has received an order from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to design the cryogenic fuel tanks of five very large container vessels fuelled with LNG . Used as a marine fuel , LNG is the best currently available alternative to improve air quality , a major public health issue . It reduces sulphur oxide emissions by 99 %, fine particles by 91 % and nitrous oxide emissions by 92 %. It also reduces CO2 emissions by up to 25 % compared to a conventionally fuelled ship . These five container vessels of 15,500 TEU each will be equipped with one single LNG fuel tank , with a capacity of 12,700 m 3 . The tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment technology , developed by GTT , offering a low and guaranteed Boil-Off Rate ( BOR ) for improved vessel operations .
