India enforces standards on stainless steel
East Pipes Integrated Company for Industry in Saudi Arabia has signed several contracts with entities and consultants to supply machinery and equipment to establish a new line to produce Helical Submerged Arc Welded ( HSAW ) pipes at the company ’ s factory in Dammam 2nd Industrial City . The company explained that the cost of the project is approximately SAR 48M . The project will begin in February 2025 , to be completed in Q4 of the fiscal year 2025 – 2026 . The new line will add approximately 100 thousand metric tons to the current nominal capacity of 400 thousand .
Swiss Steel Group presents UGIMA ® -X
The Indian government has instituted mandatory quality control for stainless steel pipes and tubes to curb sub-standard imports and boost domestic production . A legal order requires these products to carry Bureau of Indian Standards marks , with penalties for non-compliance including fines and imprisonment . According to a notification issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade ( DPIIT ), the new ‘ Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes ( Quality Control ) Order , 2025 ’ mandates that these items cannot be produced , sold , traded , imported , or stocked unless they bear the Bureau of Indian Standards ( BIS ) mark . The measure , however , allows an exemption for up to 500 kilograms per year of these goods imported for research and development , provided they are not sold commercially .
