Moderator : Jacko Aerts , dsm-firmenich , The Netherlands Since graduating from Delft University of Technology as a metallurgical engineer in 1986 , Jacko Aerts has worked for DSM , now dsm-firmenich . Materials & corrosion have always been at the heart of his career path . He started in the materials & corrosion research department , moved to the maintenance group of the caprolactam plant in Geleen , NL , in 1997 , and since 2005 he has worked in a global competence role for materials & corrosion / Life Time Extension , supporting all dsm-firmenich plants worldwide . LTE predicts when equipment needs to be replaced , providing input for strategic investment programs . Representing a small discipline within dsm-firmenich , Jacko emphasises the importance of keeping in touch with peers outside your own company : he chairs two networking groups in the Netherlands : “ Studiekern Corrosie ” and ( until 2022 ) “ Contact Group Corrosion Dutch Process Industry ”.
Dorian Hachet , Aperam Stainless Europe , France Dr Dorian Hachet , PhD , graduated in material sciences and studied the metallurgy of austenitic alloys during his PhD . He now works as a metallurgist in the R & D of Aperam Stainless France . His main focus is on the development of austenitic stainless steels for cryogenic applications , including the storage and transport of liquefied gas like hydrogen .
Andrea Francesco Ciuffini , ESRF , France Andrea gained a Master ’ s Degree in 2014 in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology and a PhD in mechanical engineering . He worked for five years at Acciai Speciali Terni S . p . A . in Innovation & Process Engineering , first as a process engineer , then as head of Process Engineering for the hot area and finally , as Innovation Manager . In 2018 , he won the ELIO GIANOTTI prize for the study ‘ Titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V ELI annealing thermal treatment optimisation for cold drawing ’ and in 2022 , the ALDO DACCÒ prize for the study ‘ Use of a Machine-learning-based automatic inspection system of continuous casting slabs to analyse oscillation marks formation in AISI 316L and 316LI stainless steels ’. Andrea now works at European Synchrotron Radiation Facility as Business Development Officer for synchrotron measurement applications in metallurgy and the EASI-STRESS project on standardisation of synchrotron radiation measurements for residual stress determination .
