Behind the Name
Every month, StOM prints the Anglican Calendar of Prayer, but have you
ever thought about what or who lies behind the name and place specified
every Sunday?
In each issue, we will feature some information about some of the
people/places for whom your prayers are being asked.
Formerly known under the colonial name
of Burma, Myanmar has had troubled
past and faces an uncertain future with
the current Rohingya Crisis being only
one element of the issues to be
confronted and overcome.
The Rt Revd Saw Wilme was
consecrated the first Bishop of the newly
created diocese of Toungoo, Myanmar in
1994.
In addition to his theological
responsibilities, Bishop John has been prominent in a wide range of health
promotion activities including clean water campaigns and the provision of
bona fide pharmaceuticals to combat the wide range of endemic killer
diseases.

A first-year stipendiary ordinand, Harriet
Oxley has been on placement in Bergsjön
parish, Diocese of Gothenburg, Sweden,
working on their programmes with refugees
and other community outreach work.
She was awarded two prizes in the School
of Divinity, New College for her work on
Christian Theology

‘Doctrines and Debates’ and
‘Paul and his Letters’.
Given the relatively unusual name, it would have been no surprise to
discover that Harriet’s talents stretched into other arenas but it appears that
she does not double as prominent costume designer Harriet Oxley
