Morag McHaffie Secretary KING DAVID Since archaeologists could not find any trace of King David in their excavations in Israel, many serious historians doubt that he ever existed. Yet his life has been written up in the Bible in such detail and even full of criticism, especially since it was rich in his involvement with many women, that it sounds true and not invented. Rather his successor Salomon in all his wisdom and hi gh honour feels like a person from a legend. There is, however, one written document referring to ‘the House of David’. It is an inscription on a standing stone, found in the North of Israel and which lists the victories and defeats of kings from the time of David. StOM Page 5
