Beyond the Summer Solstice
My wish for summer holidays
begins with light and love;
the warmth and glow of gentle rays
extended from above.
The welcome mat of summer greets
all fathers for a day;
the seed of life on earth completes
the furrows found in May.
Two lovers wed in June delight,
a full moon caters mood;
tuxedo black and bridal white,
romantic interlude.
The face of winter blushes red,
cold eyes peek from the north;
those April winds march off to bed
as fireworks come forth.
Now as the sun caresses shade
like Goldilocks’ sweet charms,
July is chaise and lemonade
in cities, towns and farms.
And in between a hot dog’s bite
with baseball on the mind,
the fireflies dance in the night-you know it’s summertime.
The breath of August heats the land,
bikinis and bare feet;
fine particles of burning sand,
block parties in the street.
Yet soon it’s time to bid adieu
to summer as our friend;
and we will long to see it through,
and labour to that end.
