Old Friends Reunited
Some of our folk from the 60s at St Margaret’s might be interested in
seeing this photo.
I was recently invited
by a Kangara Waters’
friend to attend her
patchwork group as
they were to meet that
week at the home of
someone I knew in the
60s but had not seen
since we left Canberra
in 1970.
It was a lovely drive
out of town down
Macks Reef Road
and then on the way
towards Bungendore.
The home we were
visiting was a lovely
comfortable home set
in a beautiful large
garden but then the
real surprise came
when we arrived at the
front door and were
greeted by our hostess
who had not been
warned of my visit.
It only took a few minutes and old friends were reunited. I was in the
home of Elke Hughes. Elke and Bruce Hughes were early members of St
Margaret’s and lived in Watson at that time. They now live on a large rural
block and their family consists of four children and twelve grandchildren.
Elke is a beautiful craftswoman and I was overwhelmed by her large
sewing room and to see her beautiful patchwork creations. They both
keep well and Bruce is very active still on their rural property.
My morning with this group of local patch=workers was a delight and
meeting up with Elke was a real joy. I hope we see each other again
soon.
