Old and New Wine
We will honour and respect the place of the ‘old’ ways and at the same
time we will enable and empower the independence of the ‘new’.
New Language
We acknowledge that it is time for a new language to be used among
us, language such as ‘my or mine’ is no longer helpful, we choose to
now use the language of ‘us and ours’.
A Regional Model
There is much to learn from the ‘regional church model’. Operating from
a strong base, a regional approach can support both strategic larger
ministries and dispersed smaller ministries.
A shared Vision
To gain a shared vision, people need to learn together within a relation-
al framework, finding mutual interests and passions, discover shared
values and hopes. Such a shared vision takes focussed and intentional
time and energy. And is essential in the Canberra City and the Inner
North.
Key next steps
While much more could be said, at this stage, each congregation is
asked to consider the 7 key principles (below). Stage 2 will consist of
the congregations gathering together to grow and share in a clear ap-
preciation of the principles and how they might be adopted and embod-
ied.

A Gospel People
In the footsteps of Jesus, we are called to be good news in our day
and time. To be people who look beyond ourselves to the need of the
other. To be active signs and symbols of light and love, hope and grace,
forgiveness and reconciliation. To join with Christ in people who dare
move beyond the confines of their own ‘Holy boxes’ to engage with the
needs wherever it might be.
A Unique Contribution
We believe that the Uniting Church has a unique contribution to make
through its life of worship, witness and service in Canberra City and In-
ner North Canberra. We believe that there remains a clear and abiding
need within our community for such acts of faith and love. We bring
