The Stillwater Area Public Schools District has a long and proud tradition of high expectations and outstanding achievement .
As the oldest school district in the state , Stillwater has established a tradition of excellence .
District students consistently rank high on state and national tests , and most graduates will attend a two- to four-year college . Many students are exceptional musicians and accomplished athletes , often winning state and national competitions . The district provides a challenging curriculum that meets and exceeds state and federal standards , and offers unique programs to inspire and motivate its approximately 8,400 students .
Since the 2017-2018 school year , preschool is available at all elementary schools , and the sixth- to

eighth-grade students transitioned to middle schools . Ninth-graders moved to the high school , where they have access to 140 courses and more than 50 clubs and activities .
Elected to the school board in November 2022 , Eva Lee submitted her resignation in January 2023 due to another employment opportunity . The school board held interviews and elected Chris Lauer to the board , to be sworn in on April 11 , 2023 . A special election will be held in November 2023 for the public to choose Lee ’ s replacement .
Stretching 30 miles along the St . Croix River , ISD 834 serves the communities of Afton , Bayport , Baytown Township , Grant , Hugo ,
Lake Elmo , Lakeland , Lakeland Shores , Lake St . Croix Beach , Marine on St . Croix , May Township , Oak Park Heights , St . Mary ’ s Point , Stillwater , Stillwater Township , West Lakeland Township , Withrow and Woodbury .
