St. Augustine meets Cave Hill: Welcome and advice from Cave Hill 1 | Page 3

law students on the 4 th floor in the Alma Jordon Library . Don ’ t get sad when I mention Alma Jordon becausee you may be missing the courtesy of Mrs . Rajah . Here at Cave Hill you will be greeted with new librarians all of whom are pleasant and would be your friends for the next two years
. Some people I know even speak to them on a first name basiss ! One of the librarians you will come acrosss is Mrs . Greene , a kind , hardworking and dedicated woman who focusses on your needs in the library .
Barbados ’ Enchanting Sunset
As the semester begins , you would see the vast jump , from the workload in Year 1 . For starters , theree would not be any more Mr . Affonso to give you those reassuring gestures you may need .
You will have before you , five lecturers each of whom titans in their specific field and you need to keep up to speed with each of them
… in addition to going home , cooking , cleaning , washing , making up your own bed and folding your own clothes and on top of that , waking up on time to reach for your eight o ’ clock Contract Law II class . Mistake me not when I say to listen to each of your lecturers to the T ! Whatever they teach in class actually come on exams . Granted some teachers may have a certain accent from Ghana which is really hard to understand , but don ’ t worry ! You will eventually get the hang of it .
There is the time of semester when you will be exposed to TTSA at its best . Forget all the other
island weeks , everyone looks forward to TTSA week . There is the famous hyped up play that always draws a crowd every year and the crowd never leaves disappointed . Ohhbachannal !
And to wrap up the bow on the present , we arrive at the crunch time … that part of the term where law students start panicking and sweating and even crying because exams are upon them and they did not know how the term flew by so so quickly ! This would be the most challenging time , in my experience , thus far in my Cave Hill chapter . The key during this time is not to lose focus and go to Harbour Lights just because it is $ 50 free drinks . Harbour Lights can wait till after exams but then by thatt time , you would be so tired you may want to just go back Trinidad for the holidays . Seriously though , during exam time , the key is to work smart . So great you got your lecture notes there on one hand and the textbook on the other . What about the exam ? What hints are they going to give us ? There will be no hints sad to say with the exception of one kind hearted lecturer who teaches a certain Law of Torts II … not calling any names . Use the worksheets as a guide on how to revise , there will be things you have to read . What do you do ? You read it ! Two more weeks and exam is knocking on your door ? What do you do ? You tell him
/ her you are busy because you are doing past paper questions and sharpening your swords of knowledge for them for the day of exam .
The morning of exam would finally arrive and you will have so many different emotions you would not know the difference

between you and a Lifetimee movie . Block out all distractions , say your prayers , go into thatt exam and you try your best and manage your time properly . Whatever you think of the outcome of that exam
, forget it and prepare yourself for the next exam . Do not let your mind be weighed down by past stress on what you wrote for that Land Law question two days ago . If you have
Jurisprudence next , focus on Jurisprudence ! The final day of exam would reach and you would know when you put thatt final full stop on your exam paper and crossed out the T ’ s and you will say to yourself , “ Ahh ! This is it ! Semester is over and time to go home ( Trinida d ) and listen to some parang .”

Kavita Deochan ’ s experienc e at UWI CH ( Year 2 )
My experience at UWI Cave Hill l , I must say , was at first very daunting and I certainty had my reservations about leaving my family and comfort zone behind . However , I have no regrets as coming to Barbados has proven to be a life-changing and fulfilling experience for me . This is so as I was fortunate to have made friends from other islands , learnt about their cultures and most of all benefitted from the extensivee facilities that the Law
Faculty at UWI Cave Hill has to offer , including the law library whichh contains a wide range of legall material and resources which are made readily available to all . The numerous activities on and off-f- to campus have all contributed
