Excerpt from the Report of Senate to University Council, April 27, 2012. The St. Augustine Faculty of Law achieves full faculty status.
The Faculty at St. Augustine in 2011, welcomed additions to the staff with lecturers such Dr. Sharon Le Gall and Mr. Timothy Affonso both from Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Alicia Elias- Roberts from Guyana and Dr. Noora Arajarvi from Finland. In 2012, Dr. Arif Bulkan also from Guyana, Honourable Justice Rolston Nelson of the Caribbean Court of Justice and Mrs. Afiya France joined the staff at St. Augustine. With such experienced legal minds on board, the region can look forward to groundbreaking developments from the new St. Augustine Faculty of Law.
Ms. Marie Madeira, has been part of the staff at St. Augustine since its inception( 40 years!) and can justifiably said to have“ seen it all”. She had this to say about the expansion:
“ Now that we have instituted the three year programme at the St. Augustine campus, I feel that the Faculty is poised to make an even greater contribution to the study of Law in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region. After my retirement in 2008 I was recalled( temporarily) and I must say that I was happy to be a part of this exciting development which I know will be successful given the dedication which has always been demonstrated by the staff here. I am truly proud to be a part of this expansion and I look forward to the work that lies ahead, including collaborating with you students who are vital in this progamme. My slogan for LAW is Labour all Week.”
