Acupuncture: A Traditional
Medical Practice
• Chinese traditional medical practices explain the results of acupuncture as a
harmonious balance of extremes “yang” and “yin” of the life force which is known as
“qi.” This illness is caused by the imbalance of the forces. These energies and
meridians flows are accessible through more than 300 acupuncture points in the
human body. Inserting the needles into these points with suitable combinations which
can bring the flow of energy back to the proper balance. There is no scientific proof that
acupuncture points exist but many studies suggest that this practice is effective for
some conditions. Some of the experts have used the science behind the nervous
system to explain acupuncture. The points of the acupuncture covered those areas
where muscles, nerves, and connective tissues can be motivated. This motivation will
increase the flow of blood, while at the same time triggering the activity of the natural
painkillers of the body.
• Because of the invasive nature of acupuncture, it is difficult to set up the investigation
using the scientific control. Some of the studies have claimed that acupuncture
provides the same benefits as placebo which is a clinical practice, but others have
claimed that there are many benefits of acupuncture.
