Swamy during the 700th thirunakshatram of Swamy Deshika
Visit of the ‘Silver bell’ to
Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Swamy Matham, Mysore
The 701st thirunakshatram of Swamy Deshika was also commemorated by the Vijayayatra
of a huge silver bell all over Bharatavarsham accompanied by scholars and Deshika bhaktas.
It is well known that Sri Deshika is the incarnation of the Ghanta used by Brahma in his
worship of the Lord of Thirumala. This Ghanta being aprakrta and divine in nature with its
unceasing sanidhyam will pervade all over for time immemorial. Though many aitihyams
about divine personalities come to light much after their lifetimes, in the case of Vedanta
Deshika this belief about his birth was current and so well established during the Acharya’s
life itself that the he has referred to it more than once in his works. It was therefore a very
thoughtful and apt kainkaryams to take the ‘Bell’ in a Vijaya yatra all over Bharatavarsha
celebrating the glories of Swamy Deshika’s 700th year thirunakshatram. The yatra started
from the avatara sthalam of Thirumala and proceeded to many divya-kshetrams and
asthanams.
During its sojourn at Mysore, Srimadabhinava Srinivasa Parakala Swamy had done
mangalashasanams to the same and hosted the ‘Bell’ at the Asthanam of Sri Lakshmi
Hayagriva. A brief account of the same is provided here with a few pictures.
