Srimadabhinava Srinivasa Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Swamy
Avatara Vaibhavam
In purvashramam, Swamy was known as Vidya-visharada, Aagama Vidvan Sri Kasturi
Srinivasarangacharya. He was the eldest son of the great scholar Tarkateertham
Panditaratnam Asthana-dharmadhikari Sri Kasturi Rangacharya, the fame of whose
scholarship had breached the shores of Sethu and had conquered the peaks of the
Himalayas on the other side. Let us now delve on the nectarine greatness of Swamy’s father.
Glorious lineage
Sriman Kasturi Rangacharya – Swamy’s revered father
Sriman Kasturi Rangacharya was born in the year Rudhirodgari. While still in the womb of
his mother, his father had to set out on a long yatra. As a young child, Sriman Kasturi
Rangacharya was in the care of his maternal grandfather and spent his toddler years at
Holavanahalli. By the time the child was eight, Sri Ranganatha Brahmatantra Parakala
Swamy had ascended the Acharya peetam. The Acharya arranged for the upbringing of
Sriman Kasturi Rangacharya under his care. He got the child initiated into brahmopadesham
and took him into his tutelage. From aksharabhyasam to shastrabhyasam, Sriman Kasturi
Rangacharya’s education continued unabatedly at the Matham.
At a very young age, Sriman Kasturi Rangacharya passed the Tarkashastra vidvat
examination at the Maharaja’s samskrta pathashala with distinction. He performed saanga
kalakshepam of all the Vedanta granthas under Sri Ranganatha Brahmatantra Parakala
Swamy. His intellectual acumen was immense and was really unmatched. Sri Parakala
Swamy, having seen the intellect and scholarship of Sri Kasturi Rangacharya had
prophesized that he would come to be regarded as a scholar of great merit in the entire
land beginning from the shores of sethu-samudram all the way till the peaks of the
Himalayas. This turned out to be resoundingly true. By the time Swamy was twenty years of
age, he had studied all the shastras and beamed with immeasurable knowledge.
Sriman Kasturi Rangacharya undertook a pilgrimage to the northern bharatavarsham. It was
his ardent desire to meet the scholars at various centers of learning and knowledge. It was
also his intention to engage with them in scholarly discourses on scriptures and debates as a
flag bearer of Srisampradayam and Sri Parakala Asthanam. Kashi was the most famous
amongst the centers of learning. To come out victorious in debates and discourses from
Kashi vidwat sabhas was not an easy accomplishment for every other scholar. It was the
honor that only a chosen few could claim. Such was the depth of the scholarship of vidwans
who resided there. Kasturi Rangacharya was one of those distinguished scholars who won
