During the 6-month period covered in this issue , the CDABP provided 11 training sessions to help our enrolled contractors develop their business and technical skills , increase their bonding capacity and either position themselves to enter into public works contracting or to take on larger public works projects . As the program administrator , MWIS , held sessions on the following topics : the Contract Financing Assistance Program ( CFAP ), safety , job startups , contract terms , contract readiness , Metro contracting opportunities for disabled veteran business enterprises ( DVBEs ), understanding insurance , contract award and management , basic construction finance , teaming agreements and joint ventures , and business / financial reporting , and tax tips . We ’ ve recapped four of these sessions for our readers .
Public awareness , communication , and media outreach are key to advancing our efforts . During the period covered , the CDABP was featured in three media articles . In one article , Ingrid Merriwether , MWIS ’ founder and current Director for Aligned Risk Management for our parent company , Hub International , noted the industry ’ s positive response to the program ’ s benefits , stating , “ I can ’ t tell you how many construction department leaders have said to me , ‘ Well , if what you can do can bring me more bidders , I ’ m all for it .’” We ’ ve included links in this issue to the news coverage .
Finally , in “ CDABP By the Numbers ,” we provide program statistics for the period covered , which include summary data for the numbers of contractors enrolled , the number of education and training sessions , sponsor workshops , prime partners , instances of technical assistance , the dollar values of CFAP loans issued , bid bonds issued , and the direct cost savings to program sponsors .
