CONTRACTOR SUCCESS STORY: GLOBAL ELECTRIC
contractors access the cash flow needed to successfully deliver on participating agency projects. Global Electric was able to borrow a total of $ 500,000 to help cash flow two Metro projects which the company had been awarded.
Because public works contractors were deemed essential even during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Global Electric was able to continue working on several transit projects, many of which are multi-year projects, for which some phases are wrapping up in 2025. These include several Metro Purple Line contracts to install lighting, fire and security camera systems, fiberoptics, traction power equipment, motor control centers, switchboards and other accessories necessary to run Metro’ s trains. Global Electric is also putting the finishing touches on their work for Phase 1 of the Pershing Square Rehabilitation Project.
The company’ s scope is typically about 75 % electrical and 25 % communications.“ We have specialized in the transportation industry and are installing electrical systems for lighting and lighting control, trenches, station upgrades, duct banks, transformers, and switch gears, as well as communications equipment to MetroLink destination signs and speaker systems. We now are also a 1st Tier subcontractor.” Becoming a 1st Tier means that Global Electric has successfully proven the company capable of taking responsibility for completing the entire scope of a large-scale project, including providing all paperwork, as well as the required level of quality and timeliness.
William relishes the challenges that largescale projects present.“ There’ s never a dull moment because construction always has so many moving parts, including bidding and start-up, procuring materials, addressing field issues, meeting change order requests, adhering to timeframes and work schedules and resolving unforeseen issues. It’ s such a joy to see a project go from a design to a finished, constructed project. I feel really good about being part of the Los Angeles community and knowing that our work helps provide safe, reliable and sustainable public transportation options.”
Although all of the projects which Global Electric has worked on are special to William, he is particularly proud of those requiring complex solutions.“ I love redirecting tracks, building platforms, running fiberoptic cables, installing transformers, communications equipment, motor control centers, and switches that have to move 5-ton equipment – as we’ ve done for the Regional Connector Transit Project, on the MetroLink Acton and Van Nuys station improvements, and for the Los Angeles SoFi Stadium and entertainment complex.”
William feels that being part of the union has also been an important part of Global Electric’ s ability to grow into larger-scale project work.“ I didn’ t know I could work on such large projects, but finding a quality
